Digital Divide

The Public DataWeb system encapsulates websites and simplifies them for easy public access. This operation is not limited to kiosks only and can just as easily be used as a simplification method for WiFi wireless services, Cable TV services and for PC resident operations.

Security is important and no unauthorised sites can be accessed.

The Internet was not designed for public access: websites are built for those people that have a PC a modem and the ability and skill to connect and operate website constructions as the de-facto standard. These standards are unfit for general public use.

These constructions often obfuscate the users need for direct and simple and rapid access to the subject they need.

The technical build and the restrictions of HTML, XML and Java all contribute to complexity, single-minded options and slow retrieval speeds.

Furthermore, the ‘Web’ was never envisaged to be navigated by a touch screen. Websites hardly ever take into consideration the needs of a touch screen user. Until the PDWeb option the best answer was a large touch screen to expand the options to around finger size (meaning a 22” screen).

Touching the Web is made simple by introducing the PDWeb overlay which is also a set of re-purposing software modules activated over and above the selected websites. The result is greater speed, efficiency and search accuracy.

The end result makes the Internet much simpler and faster to use even for the skilled computer orientated user!

Addressing the digital divide is split into two activities the first is access the second is usability.
Access is the easiest issue.

Public Kiosks in the street and other locations are evolving so that the same services are provided on other publicly accessible services. the progression is kiosks to DITV at home and onwards to mobiles via the WiFi MESH.

Also the front line service where the public receives services from the council such as Benefits can also be modified for self service.

All of this relies upon usability.

Public Dataweb are addressing usability issues by remodeling access to the internet and providing assistive tools such as intelligent agents [Verbots] that can further assist the users in obtaining complex transactions.

By these measures the divide between those that can currently operate internet services and those that do not engage with them is considerably reduced.
