e-Voting

Sheffield
introduced Smart Cards for its citizens early in 2004.
Its one of the largest Smart Card distributions in the UK and the first
associated for live Internet voting.
The Card & Kiosk combination offer multiple use possibilities, for example the cards can be used to identify the user and reduce repetitive functions, e.g. filling in forms on websites that ask for name address etc.
Security:
The cards are contact less with 16 sectors with four blocks in each On of these sectors stores the voter ID. This is a nine digit unique coded number that has to have an associated password /pin of four digits Many e-Voting operations have been criticised that is why Sheffield insisted upon Smart Card ID plus pin numbers for secure voter verification (from twin separate databases.)
Other e-Vote trials have been criticised due to the lack of security but the Sheffield combination of twin posting of ID, smart Card and the kiosk procedure ensures considerable triple security and unlike other methods there is the possibility of an audit and a re-count with the method.
